About the role
Stonepillow has been supporting people experiencing homelessness across Chichester and Arun since 1989. Our properties are working environments where our clients live and recover, and the standard of those environments matters.
We are looking for an experienced, multi-skilled maintenance operative to join the property management team and take genuine ownership of keeping our buildings safe, functional and fit for purpose.
This is a peripatetic role. You will work across our residential and commercial sites using your own tools and a Stonepillow vehicle, covering both reactive repairs and planned maintenance. You will be a confident and capable multi-trader who can turn their hand across carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating, plastering and minor electrics without needing direction.
What the job involves
- Carrying out reactive repairs and planned maintenance across all Stonepillow properties
- Working across multiple trades including carpentry, basic plumbing, painting and decorating, plastering and minor electrics
- Preparing void properties to re-let standard, including light refurbishment
- Experience of emergency lighting, including replacement of bulbs and/or LED bulkheads, and legionella awareness. Identifying, reporting and remediating damp, mould and HHSRS hazards
- Keeping accurate job records and compliance logs
- Liaising with contractors and supporting the property management team on planned works
- Working respectfully and safely in occupied supported accommodation alongside people who may be experiencing significant difficulties in their lives
What we are looking for
- Proven multi-trade experience of at least three years
- Own tools and a full manual UK driving licence (must be 21+ for insurance purposes)
- Genuine competence across at least three trades, not just a general maintenance background
- An organised, self-directed approach to managing a varied workload across multiple sites
- Comfortable working in occupied residential settings, with professional boundaries and a calm, respectful manner around residents
- Good record-keeping and the ability to use basic digital systems for job management
The benefits of working at Stonepillow:
- Healthcare and wellbeing support including access to in-app virtual appointments with NHS registered GPs and access to a comprehensive Employee Assistance programme with face-to-face counselling
- A medical cashback scheme and retail discounts
- Stakeholder pension, employer contribution of 5%
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (pro rata)
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if a high volume of applications have been received.
Early applications are encouraged, interviews will commence before the closing date if suitable candidates are identified
