PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

  • To assist in formulating assessments of needs for each young person.
  • To assist the Registered Care Manager in the management of the home in all aspects appropriate to the Statement of Purpose for the home.
  • To provide a caring and supportive environment for young people which respects and affirm their racial, cultural and religious identity and lifestyle.
  • To assist in returning them to their families or enable them to move on to alternative careers or independence at the appropriate stage in their lives.
  • To help the young person and all significant persons in the design and implementation of their care plans taking into account the views of the young person.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of young people.
  • To maintain satisfactory child care standards.
  • To provide a caring and supportive environment in which young people will feel safe.
  • To act as a positive role model.
  • To exercise appropriate control of young people by being aware of their presenting needs.
  • The maintenance of satisfactory written records and reports on the individual young person's behaviour and attitude which can be used in casework conferences and/or Court Proceedings.
  • To undertake and promote domestic duties in the home and ensure high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the home and grounds.
  • To ensure that statutory regulations and other policies and procedures of the company are implemented.
  • To have good practice at the cornerstone of all work undertaken whilst in the employment of the company.
  • To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • To ensure the rights and needs of the young people are met as fully as possible whether emotional, spiritual, physical, intellectual, cultural or social.
  • To promote and maintain positive anti-discrimination practices.
  • To attend staff meetings and supervision sessions.
  • To undertake other duties at a higher responsibility level matching relevant experience and ability as directed by the line manager.
  • To attend the mandatory training sessions.
  • To manage individual shifts as required.

 

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 

  • This is a casual worker agreement.
  • completion of the level 3 diploma Residential Childcare England qualification (or equivalent)

  1. Suitably experienced / qualified evidence of qualifications required
  2. Satisfactory formal interview at Head Office
  3. Satisfactory second interview
  4. Satisfactory References
  5. Satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Disclosure
  6. Overseas Police Check, (if required)

Recruitment Process

Keeping in line with Children’s Homes Regulation 2015, Ofsted requirements and Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022, our recruitment process comprises of two interviews (three for a teaching role), two inductions with online training.

Interviews

We have an initial interview at our head office to ascertain skills and knowledge, verify identity proofs and DBS status. If a candidate is successful at interview at this stage, they will be invited to a second, informal interview at one of our eight children’s homes–our children and young people have a voice in this stage too!

Inductions

If a candidate is successful at the second interview an offer of employment will be given and the candidate will be invited to a two day induction at head office to complete online courses including child exploitation and child protection.

The second induction will take place in the home you have been selected to work in.

Training

My Choice can guarantee the following for their staff:

  • comprehensive and continued training

All staff are expected to gain their Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare Englandand are fully supported in this by our Learning and Development Manager. My Choice has a registered training centre with CACHE NCFE and all Diplomas are completed through the centre.

We also offer a bridging course to fill gaps in knowledge if a Level 3 has previously been achieved and we offer Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare England.

All new starters will be enrolled onto a course immediately after employment to ensure Regulation 32 of the Children’s Homes Regulation 2015 is met and adhered to.

My Choice also offer the Therapeutic Practitioners Award facilitated by Lifetrain UK ™ which develops our therapeutic practices within the company. Training provided but is not limited to –

  • Advanced child protection

  • Food hygiene
  • Health and safety management.
